Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world the topic of that children are required to study one or more foreign language has become increasingly important and has attracted considerable attention. While some people believe that studying foreign language is an important part of education. Others holds opposite opinion. Both the viewpoints have their own merits. This essay will discuss arguments surrounding this issue before explaining the reason why I believe that.

Moreover, on of the main reasons supporting the view is that learning more than one language can be beneficial for students. This is because it will help them to attract opportunities in future. which can have a significant impact on individuals and society. For example now a days people get to work oversees which require fluency in foreign language. This example clearly illustrate that it is a crucial part of education. As a result many people consider this approach to be beneficial and practical.

On the other hand, there are strong arguments in favour of opposite view. Many people argue that learning more than one language can be difficult for the students. Furthermore, it is not a requirement for education system. For instance if student will focus on learning different language it can be confusing for them and can affect their performance. Therefore, this perspective should be taken under consideration before reaching a final conclusion.

In conclusion, both sides of arguments have valid viewpoints. Nevertheless, I believe that learning more skills has potential benefits because its benefits outweigh the drawbacks. If this approach is adopted, it is likely to produce positive results for the individual and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the writer's opinion on its importance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the writer mentions career opportunities, the explanation is brief and lacks depth. The counter-argument regarding the difficulty of learning languages is also presented but not fully explored or refuted with strong evidence. To reach a higher band, the writer should provide more specific, detailed examples and ensure the position is consistently supported throughout the essay rather than just stating it in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to link sections. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the sentence fragment 'which can have a significant impact on individuals and society.' Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the flow of arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The writer relies on basic terms like 'important', 'beneficial', and 'good'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the topic of that children are required' (should be 'the topic of whether children are required') and 'oversees' (should be 'overseas'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common lexical items required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Others holds opposite opinion'), article misuse ('the topic of that children'), and punctuation errors, such as the sentence fragment starting with 'which'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over complex structures. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is needed.
