Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many institutes demands students to be multilingual, while for others it is not mandatory. This essay will enlist few advantages of having knowledge of different languages and put forward my opinion that it plays an important role in scholar’s life.

Due to the advancement in technology and internet, people got exposure of different parts of the regions. Students of every other countries want to persue their higher studies in world's top universities. In order to get admission their, scholars are required to fulfil the demand of native language test so that they will not face any problem to live in local place. For example, in some countries every shop boardings, street names are written in their written language. However, students needs to speak in the local language to get interacted with indigenous people to make new friends, because most of the people are only limited to their nation's language only.

On the other hard, if we consider the advantages to be multilingual, first and foremost is, one can learn about cultural and traditional things of that territory. Students can learn about the history of that particular region. They scholars can also take part in local cultural events if they could interact with people in their native language.

In conclusion, I would like to restate that language test should not be compulsory to the students who want to study in their dream universities but it could be an assent for them which could help them to learn more about the local region and will enhance their knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the opinion on its importance in education. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph focuses heavily on the practical necessity of language tests for international students, which is a slightly different angle than the general benefits of language study. The second paragraph touches on cultural awareness, but the ideas could be more deeply explored with more specific examples. The conclusion introduces a slightly contradictory point regarding whether language tests should be compulsory, which weakens the overall position. To improve, ensure that each paragraph directly supports the main argument with clear, extended reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Due to', 'For example', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'On the other hard' (a spelling error) and the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points being discussed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'multilingual', 'indigenous', and 'advancement'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'enlist few advantages' (should be 'list a few'), 'shop boardings' (should be 'signage'), and 'assent' (likely meant 'asset'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of collocations and refining word choice would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Many institutes demands', 'students needs'), article usage ('in world's top universities'), and prepositional errors ('admission their'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining control over them.
