Student answer (Band 6.0)

This essay will focus on studying foreign languages, whether some educational systems consider them as part of there subjects in schools but many feel that it is not a case. Personally I feel it is important to study foreign language.

Firstly, it opens oppertunity window for one who is learning foreign language. Some growing countries want there children to learn more and more languages to represent them in front of the world. For example, children in India were learning English as a foreign language in there schools from starting but now there government is investing more for there younger ones to learn French as a second foreign language. This will give them exposure in future to target bilingual jobs with multiple companies and also learning new language can be a reason for their success in different countries.

Other than that, getting education in multiple languages helps people to understand and explore more about different cultures and geographies. Therefore, it is an advantage to have experience with foreign language as it can help people in their tourism activities. For instance, if an individual will learn French and Spanish, they will not only have access to France and Spain but also they can consider more than half of Africa in there touring list as most of African countries speak Spanish and French.

In conclusion, learning something new is never bad idea, it always helps education systems to grow if they back there locals to learn foreign languages. Rest it is dependent on individual either they want to learn it or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the personal opinion on its importance in education. The ideas are relevant, such as career opportunities and cultural exploration. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the claim that 'most of African countries speak Spanish and French' is a significant over-generalisation and factually inaccurate, which weakens the support for your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are accurate and more deeply explored. The position is clear throughout, but the conclusion is slightly weak as it suggests the decision should be left to the individual, which slightly contradicts the earlier argument that it is an important part of education.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Other than that', and 'In conclusion', which help the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'there government' and 'there younger ones' (where 'their' is intended) occurs frequently, which affects the flow. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns and references are used accurately to connect sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several persistent errors in word choice and spelling, most notably the confusion between 'there' and 'their' (e.g., 'there subjects', 'there government', 'there younger ones'). Other errors include 'oppertunity window' and 'never bad idea', which sound unnatural. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'bilingual jobs' and 'geographies', the overall lexical control is limited by these frequent basic errors. Focusing on correct spelling and common collocations will significantly improve your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'whether some educational systems consider them as part of there subjects... but many feel that it is not a case' and 'if an individual will learn... they will not only have access... but also they can consider'. The misuse of articles and verb tenses is also noticeable. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Increasing your control over sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
