Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by identifying benefits and expressing an opinion on the importance of language study. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas regarding job opportunities and cognitive benefits are relevant, they are not fully extended. The conclusion is also missing, which prevents a clear summary of your position. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the word count requirement to allow for a comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. The final paragraph is incomplete and ends abruptly, which disrupts the overall flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence and a concluding thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. You use basic terms like 'good fields' and 'other culture people', which are not natural collocations. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'expemoney'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to education and professional development. For example, instead of 'get more money', use 'increase earning potential'. Expanding your range of synonyms and learning the correct collocations for professional contexts will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('learning foreign languages become', 'it have numerous advantages', 'it will helps') and incorrect verb forms ('i will discussed'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Proofreading your work for these common errors will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy and allow you to experiment with more complex sentence structures.
