Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some educational systems, children are required to study one or more foreign languages. In others, foreign language study is not a requirement. What are the potential benefits of foreign language study? Do you think foreign language study is an important part of education?
Nowadays, some abroad languages are entitled as a compulsory subject in various schools. In contrast to others, such type of implementation is considered as unnecessary. However, I believe that foreign language study plays an indispensable role in the development of child's productivity as well as creativity as this step can overcome the language barrier.
On the one hand, studying foreign languages are more likely to assist in overcoming the language barrier between different countries. If a pupil learns a different language at an early age, he would not probably suffered in the future. Therefore, he can easily adapt to the another culture. Moreover, learning such languages can boost the child's confidence and he will talk with anyone without hesitation. In a recent study revealed that those young people who can speak foreign language well at an early age are more well adapted to abroad as compared to others.
In contrast to this, these types of implementation can sometime create burden on child's mind. This can leads to the underdevelopment of child. They become more frustated and act as an arrogant person. Moreover, some parents believe that if this subject become necessary, that their adolescents will not pay attention to other recreational activities. This can effect their health. For example, it has been seen that those students who learn more subjects are not participating in outdoor activities.
In conclusion, although foreign languages can sometime make student more irritated, I still believe that foreign languages can develop the confidence and overcome the language barrier.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of language study and the writer's opinion on its importance. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits are touched upon, the counter-arguments regarding 'burden' and 'arrogance' are not fully supported or logically linked to the core topic of language education. The ideas are relevant, but the explanation lacks depth, particularly in the second body paragraph where the link between language study and personality changes like 'arrogance' is not clearly substantiated. To improve, ensure that each point is fully explained with logical reasoning and concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast to this' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'In a recent study revealed that', which lacks a proper subject-verb structure. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The progression of ideas is present, but the transition between the benefits and the potential drawbacks could be more sophisticated to improve the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there is a lack of precision and some awkward collocations. Phrases like 'abroad languages' (instead of 'foreign languages') and 'entitled as a compulsory subject' are unnatural. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable' and 'underdevelopment', but errors in word choice, such as 'suffered' instead of 'suffer' and 'frustated' (spelling error), occur. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more accurate collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'studying foreign languages are' (subject-verb agreement), 'he would not probably suffered' (incorrect verb tense/form), and 'this can leads to' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy.
