Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the benefits of foreign language study and state your opinion, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'running a business' is mentioned multiple times without specific examples or logical expansion. To improve, you must develop each point with clear explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there are attempts at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are often mechanical or confusing, such as the repetitive use of 'furthermore' and 'moreover' without clear logical progression. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that supports your overall position.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'study', 'language', and 'get', which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'stress on students' (which is unclear) and 'accept any languages' (which is likely a misuse of 'acquire'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to education and career development, and work on using collocations correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'French is also make a part'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or run-on, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex sentence structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences.
