Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing the benefits of language study and expressing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The word count is 231 words, which is below the 250-word minimum requirement, resulting in a penalty. While the student provides examples like the school 'Stifenwilliums', the explanation lacks depth and the overall argument is underdeveloped. To improve, the student should expand on the reasoning behind the benefits and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'firstly', 'moreover', 'furthermore', and 'in conclusion' to structure the response. However, the flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors, making the progression of ideas feel mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logic within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow due to sentence-level errors. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'good', 'best', and 'knowledge'. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'naseccery' (necessary), 'mor' (more), 'Stifenwilliums' (likely a misspelling of a proper noun), and 'defet' (defeat). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the lack of precision and the high frequency of spelling mistakes impede the overall clarity of the writing. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('student have knowledge', 'government demand those student'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and run-on sentences. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
