Student answer (Band 6.5)

In few educational institutions, it is compulsory to study overseas languages, however; in other systems it is not usually required. In my opinion, learning a foreign language is an important part of education because it provides students with better communication skills and improves their understanding of other cultures . The reason for such opinion will be discussed in detail in following notion.

The first and foremost benefit is that learning another language improves communication and creates better career opportunities.By this I mean that students can communicate with people from different countries, it is also useful when they are travelling or working internationally. Additionally, many companies prefer to hire multilingual employees, so that they can help international clients. For instance, someone who speaks both, English and French may have more opportunities in county like Canada because both languages are widely used.

The second crucial benefit is that foreign-language learning improves understanding of other cultures and develops mental abilities. When pupils start learning about different cultures and traditions, it helps in reducing stereotypes and encourages tolerance. It also improves memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills. Along with that according to several surveys, students who speaks multiple languages are more confident in communication than any other. For example, Spanish learning student may also learn about Spanish-speaking counties, tradition, and lifestyle.

In conclusion, learning foreign language is valuable as specially when it comes to communication or career opportunities. It also develops cultural awareness and mental skills. Therefore, it should be an important part of education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly identify the benefits of language learning—communication, career prospects, and cognitive development—and provide a firm opinion on its importance in education. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Canada and the benefits of learning Spanish. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more deeply explored; for instance, you could elaborate on how exactly language learning reduces stereotypes rather than just stating it as a fact. Overall, the position is clear and maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost benefit,' 'Additionally,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the incorrect use of a semicolon after 'however' in the first sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. To improve, focus on varying your linking words to make the flow feel more natural and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multilingual,' 'stereotypes,' and 'tolerance' effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'following notion' (which is unnatural) and 'county like Canada' (should be 'country'). Additionally, there are some repetitive phrasing patterns. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that your word choices are precise. For example, instead of 'learning another language,' you could use 'acquiring a second language' or 'linguistic proficiency.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'students who speaks' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'learning foreign language' (missing article). Punctuation is generally functional but occasionally imprecise, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph: '...different countries, it is also useful...'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you move toward a higher band.
