Student answer (Band 6.0)
IN RECENT ERA, LEARNING MANY DIFFERENT LANGUAGES HAS HUGE IMPACT ON DIFFERENT AREAS OF LIFE. IN ACCORDANCE WITH THAT, IN MOST DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, STUDENTS LEARN MANY LANGUAGES AS A PART OF THEIR INTEGRAL EDUCATION. ALTHOUGH CHILDREN FROM DEVELOPED COUNTRIES ONLY FOCUS ON LEARNING THEIR OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON LIFE AND I WILL DISCUSS MORE PROS OF LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH. BUT I DO NOT THINK FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION SHOULD BE INTEGRAL PART OF EDUCATION.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, LEARNING A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE ALWAYS BUILDS A DIFFERENT PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER AS IT INCREASES THE ABILITY OF A PERSON'S GROWTH. SECONDLY, KNOWLEDGE OF A VERSATILE LANGUAGE GIVES MORE OPPORTUNITIES COMPARED TO OTHERS IN THE ROOM. OVERALL, LEARNING A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE EMPOWERS A PERSON IN BOTH PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL WAYS. IN ADDITION TO THAT, LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE ALSO OPENS THE GATE OF STUDY ABROAD.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH MY POINT OF VIEW, CHILDREN ALREADY HAVE A LOTS OF IMPORTANT TOPICS TO LEARN SO EXTRA LANGUAGE STUDY MAY GIVES MORE BURDEN. MOREOVER, IF THEY WANT TO LEARN EXTRA LANGUAGE THEN THEY WILL TAKE THIS DECISION ON THEIR OWN WHEN THEY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF OTHER LANGUAGE. PARENTS DOES NOT HAVE TO PUT MORE PRESSURE ON CHILDREN FOR FURTHER LANGUAGE STUDIES.
ALTHOUGH, FOREIGN SPEECHES HAS ALOTS OF BENEFITS AS GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILL, GOOD PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT, AND MORE OPPORTUNITIES, I STILL BELIEVE THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF EDUCATION AS CHILDREN HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO DECIDE WEATHER THEY WANT TO STUDY OR NOT

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the candidate's opinion on whether it should be mandatory. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that language study 'builds a different personality' is vague and lacks specific explanation or examples. The argument against mandatory study is clearer, but the reasoning relies on the idea of 'burden' without exploring the educational or cognitive benefits in depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples, such as how language skills improve career prospects or cultural empathy, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, such as 'In accordance with that' and 'In accordance with my point of view', which are used slightly unnaturally. Additionally, the transition between the benefits and the argument against mandatory study could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'huge impact' and 'different'. Some word choices are slightly inaccurate or awkward, such as 'foreign speeches' (likely meaning 'foreign languages') and 'versatile language'. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Parents does not have to', 'extra language study may gives'), spelling errors ('weather' instead of 'whether', 'alots' instead of 'a lot of'), and punctuation inconsistencies. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and spelling, and attempt to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses used accurately.
