Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate that international language should be important for studying and few people say that it is not required for studying due to some reasons. However, I presume that foreign language plays an important role when community include this in school curriculum. The upcoming essay will demonstrate the pros as well as its importance with relevant examples.

First of all, there are variety of languages popular in our society. Whenever children start to learn about international language, they get opportunity to know about distinct things such as their culture, food, and life style. Apart from this, in this globalized world, people get numerous offers and higher pay rates from international companies when they speak more than one language. Moreover, the paramount benefit is to mitigate cultural barrier between different communities, that is possible by learning foreign language.

Furthermore, learning native language in younger age will assist to develop their brain without any discrimination. For instance, most of the spouses who come into foreign country on behalf of their sponsers, they do not know how to speak non-native language, which creates difficulties for them to get jobs as well as open communication with other people. After knowing all these facts, I can say that international language should be part of our basic study. In this contemporary society, individuals have to face inferiority at that time when they are unable to speak other languages with other people.

To conclude, it can be reiterated that there are innumerable factors determining the importance of learning foreign language which cannot be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of language study and the opinion on its importance in education. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'spouses' and 'sponsors' is not entirely relevant to the context of children in school systems, which weakens the argument's focus. While the benefits are mentioned, they could be more thoroughly explained with more specific examples related to the educational context to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Apart from this', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within the second paragraph is slightly hampered by the shift from children's education to the example of adult spouses.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication. There are some imprecise word choices, such as 'international language' instead of 'foreign language' or 'second language', and 'inferiority' is used in a context that is not entirely natural. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalized world' and 'curriculum', the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptive terms. More precise collocations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'when community include this' (subject-verb agreement), 'in younger age' (missing article), and 'on behalf of their sponsers' (incorrect prepositional usage). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed to move into the 7.0 band.
