Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many schools and colleges, the students are taught more than one foreign languages. while others says that it is not much important to study different languages and mainly focuses on the main subjects of the study. Further in this essay i will be discussing the benefits of learning a new language and why it is an important part of the educational system.

Firstly, talking about the additional subjects that are being taught in schools and college. According to me, it is essential for the students to learn new things in school as it makes their brain more sharp and makes their memory sharp. It will also help them if they are planning to study in foreign country in the future. For instance, In Canada in the city Ottawa residents usually speaks French language only. As French is the national language of Canada. So if we already have learned this language in high school it will be easy for us. Youngsters can have more job opportunities and better communication by knowing other languages.

Moreover, I believe that studying an non-native language is vital part of the education as it has many pros as i mentioned in the above paragraph. By this you can connect with new people when travelling and can make new friends. This will also improve the communication if an individual is travelling to other state or country for vacation. High school and college can prepare students for their future by educating them new things. Speaking another language makes a person more confident and proud.

In conclusion, education system should make children learn international language but it should not become stressful and peer pressure on the students. Teenagers should be aware about the benefits and importance of this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the opinion on its importance in education. The ideas are relevant, such as cognitive benefits and career opportunities. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding Ottawa is factually inaccurate, as French is not the only language spoken there, and the explanation of how language learning makes the brain 'sharp' is quite generic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced arguments and ensure your supporting examples are accurate and well-integrated into your reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs with a logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'By this you can connect with new people'. The transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall readability. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion needs more variety beyond simple sequence markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'make their brain more sharp' and 'important part of the education'. There are some word choice errors, such as 'studying an non-native language' (should be 'a non-native') and 'stressful and peer pressure' (which is grammatically awkward). To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and linguistics, rather than repeating simple descriptors like 'important' or 'new'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'many schools and colleges, the students are taught' (incorrect structure), 'others says' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'educating them new things' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
