Language is a medium by which one can perceive and share information from one another. Therefore, in a few schools, pupils are instructed to study other languages also apart from their mother tongue whereas in other institutes learning a foreign language is not mandatory. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the candidate's opinion on its importance. The ideas are relevant, such as cognitive development, career opportunities, and migration benefits. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of 'translators' and 'tutors' is a good start, but it lacks depth. The conclusion is brief and could have better reinforced the main arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed explanation or a more specific, personal example to fully develop the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Another predominant factor', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. There are also minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as the space before the comma in 'To add on ,'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the candidate to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'myriad', 'multilingual', and 'global village'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'settle in abroad countries' (should be 'settle abroad' or 'settle in foreign countries') and 'make other people learn language of their interest'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on fairly standard terms. Expanding the range of collocations would help improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'there of myriad of benefits' (should be 'there are a myriad of benefits'), 'learning of any foreign language help' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'knowledge of one than one language' (should be 'more than one'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
