Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the writer's opinion on its importance. The ideas are relevant, focusing on career advancement and travel. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments could be more nuanced. For instance, the explanation of career benefits relies on general statements rather than specific, well-developed examples. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each paragraph provides a more detailed exploration of the points raised rather than simply restating the main idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain' and 'To explore', which do not function naturally as transitions. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'the person who do not know anything about can face challenges', where the object of the verb is missing. Improving the variety and precision of linking words will help the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'studying linguistic' should be 'studying linguistics', 'career span' is an unnatural collocation for 'career prospects', and 'widespread student's future' is incorrect usage. There are also minor spelling errors like 'broden' instead of 'broaden'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and the errors occasionally distract the reader. Focusing on learning word families and common collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'studying linguistic have', 'the person who do not know') and article usage. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'the person who can speak different language find easy to close deal', which lacks necessary articles and pluralization. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from achieving a higher score. More attention to proofreading for subject-verb agreement and plural forms is recommended.
