Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, due to the advancement of science and technology, the education system has changed from the past. Although a few think that it is required for children to learn more, or at least one foreign language, at school, others think this is not important for children. This essay intends to discuss the benefits of studying a foreign language as well as why it is a paramount part of study.
There are a lot of advantages of learning a foreign language. The first and foremost pro is linguistic development. So, when they learn a different language instead of their mother tongue, they can easily learn and understand other people who are from other countries. As a result, they can also learn more about other cultures, traditions and customs, and learning other languages leads them to enhance their knowledge. Additionally, learning a foreign language helps to build their confidence. To be more precise, when they know another language that time they can talk with anybody, whether they are in or outside of the nation. This helps them to boost their confidence and personality throughout their whole life. For example, it was very compulsory in my school days to learn English, which helps me a lot nowadays to pass the ilets exam, which is totally in a different language from my mother tongue. Hence, learning a different language plays a vital role in a person's life to stay happy in other areas, apart from their own comfort zone.
From my perspective, it is very important to learn a foreign language because it helps us in numerous ways. Firstly, helps us to know about other cultures. Also gives us new experiences in life. So, making a foreign language an important part of study is beneficial for the welfare of any nation.
To conclude, after discussion, it becomes quite clear that a foreign language is a very important part of stuy either helps to boost confidence or cultural knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the importance of including it in education. The ideas are relevant, such as cultural awareness and confidence building. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument about 'confidence' is mentioned twice without significant expansion. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting points could be more thoroughly explored with more varied examples beyond personal experience. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating similar ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'So' to start sentences. Referencing is generally clear, but the concluding sentence is somewhat weak and does not effectively summarize the main points. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the conclusion provides a more comprehensive synthesis of the arguments would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era' and 'paramount part'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and repetition, such as using 'study' multiple times in close proximity and the phrase 'that time they can talk'. The spelling error 'stuy' in the conclusion also detracts from the overall quality. To improve, focus on using a wider range of collocations and synonyms to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it was very compulsory' (should be 'it was compulsory'), 'helps us to know' (missing subject 'it'), and 'whether they are in or outside of the nation'. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. The frequency of these errors does not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more precise sentence construction would be beneficial.
