IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some educational systems, children are required to study one or more foreign languages. In others, foreign language study is not a requirement. What are the potential benefits of foreign language study?
Do you think foreign language study is an important part of education?
Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In several parts of the world, learning one or more foreign languages is part of the educational system. Whereas, some do not make it essential. In this essay, I will explain why it is beneficial and why froeign language study is prominent part of education.
To comence with, being multi-lingual could help person in advancement of career and opportunities to study in foreign country. Being living in a diverse country such as Canada, services are not limited to two official languages thus, knowledge of another foreign language could help to secure a job. Meanwhile, being able to communicate in multiple languages open several opportunity for younger population to study abroad. Vast majority of Canada's rising population is driven by these study programs which provide immigrants with opportunity to study and work. Therefore, importance of foreign languages sharply increased in parts of world.
Meanwhile, foriegn languages became prominent part of education in accordance with several factors. English being the most spoken language around the world is not itself easy to learn for several countries. Meanwhile, it is extremely difficult for any country to operates smoothly thus, foreign language such as english became important aspect of education. Several countries make it optional which is completely acceptable. If a person wants to learn they choose to and if they do not it is their personal choice.
In conclusion, I do not see any disadvantage of learning foreign language. Meanwhile ssome may raise concern why foriegn language is part of education but all in all it is for mutual benefits.
