In some educational systems, children are required to study one or more foreign languages. In others, foreign language study is not a requirement. What are the potential benefits of foreign language study? 

Do you think foreign language study is an important part of education?

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Foreign languages are becoming a essential part of learning.Few schools are teaching different languages in the school while it is not a requirement in other institutions. This essay will discuss the benefits of study of different languages as well as my personal opinion on this view.

To begin with, learning a foreign language is really beneficial for children it makes them bilingual. Firstly, if kids know about different languages it is easy for them to understand the language of another western countries. Secondly, it give them option for several job and study opportunities in another country. Furthermore, it is also beneficial for their mental growth because learning a new language is challenging. It help to build confidence to speak with people from different nation. For instance, recent survey conducted by Oxford University explain that bilingual people are more confident and sucessful in comparison to others.

However, there should be an option in schools to choose if student want to learn the different language or not. I personally believe that, it should not be mandatory for everyone. While, it is an important part of education few students are not interested to learn a language and without interest they can not learn to speak a good language. In this competitive world, it is really good for children if they learn a new language. Because, if somebody want to work or study in different country, first of all, they need to clear a language test. For instance, IELTS test is mandatory if somebody want to study or work in canada.

To conclude, although learning a language is really helpful for students for their personal growth in this competitive era but it should not be mandatory for everyone. Every school should have option for students to learn different languages because it help them for future job and study opportunities.
