Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is certainly true that in some educational institutions learning a single or multiple foreign languages are highly encouraged. While, in others learning a new language is optional. This essay will articulate the positive aspects of learning multiple languages along with its merits in the following paragraphs.

The most promising benefit of acquiring the knowledge of foreign language is better communication. Learning a new language boosts the confidence of kids to talk effectively with others. Moreover, it helps them to perform better in social activites as knowledge of foreign language give them edge to understand the global issues and elevate the problem solving skills to rectify those problems. For example, childern who learn other languages in early age perform better in leadership positions as better grip on language skills noticebly increase the learship qualities. Hence, learning foreign language helps in effective communication and problem solving skills.

Furthermore, it helps the childern in decision making ability. To make it more clear, Childern who learn multiple languages can easily make complex decisions because it boosts the decision making. For example, two-wide ranging surveys carried out in Spain in 2017 revealed that learning more than one language increase the chances of getting hired by multinational companies by 68%. Thus, it helps in making right decision and bright carrier in future.

In conclusion, learning foreign language not only increase the communication skills but also helps in making right decisions. In my opinion it should be highly endcourgaed in schools to teach more than one language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the potential benefits of foreign language study and presenting a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on communication and problem-solving in the second paragraph touches upon relevant points such as social activities and leadership, but these ideas remain somewhat general and lack extension with concrete personal examples. The third paragraph attempts to explore decision-making and career prospects, backed by a survey reference, yet the reasoning feels slightly repetitive. To reach a higher level, all main points need deeper elaboration with fully explained examples rather than brief mentions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing specific benefits, and a distinct concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, transitional markers like "Moreover" and "Furthermore" are employed to link paragraphs, but internal cohesive devices within sentences can be repetitive, such as the repeated use of phrases like "to make it more clear" and "for example." Additionally, some referencing elements, such as "it" and "this," occasionally create slight ambiguity regarding what specific noun they refer back to. Improved flow and varied cohesive ties would enhance the logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "multinational companies," "leadership positions," and "global issues." However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the response, such as writing "activites" instead of activities, "childern" instead of children, "endcourgaed" instead of encouraged, and "carrier" instead of career. Collocations and word forms are occasionally awkward, such as "give them edge" missing an article and "bright carrier in future" needing an article and a more precise adjective. These lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede overall communication, but they prevent the vocabulary from achieving a higher rating.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation. Subject-verb agreement issues are present, such as "learning a single or multiple foreign languages are" and "learning more than one language increase," both of which treat gerund phrases incorrectly. Article errors also occur, such as missing definite or indefinite articles before singular countable nouns like "edge" and "future." Punctuation and minor structural flaws are visible, such as the comma splice in the opening paragraph. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main message.
