Student answer (Band 6.0)
According to some educational institutions, more than one or more languages should be studied by students, while others believe that this is not compulsory to learn foreign language. There are several advantages of non-native language. I think that international language is crucial part of education.
One of the main advantages of learning another language is better communication. Most of the time when people travel to foreign countries, they may have to face difficulty in communicating with native people. But if people known to other country's language, they can easily explain everything and understand others. This can be useful while working or travelling in other countries.
Another important advantage is that foreign language skill can improve future career opportunities. Many companies prefer different language proficiency for company's growth and better understanding, and these companies demand employees those who can communicate in different languages for international purposes. Therefore, people who can speak more than one language may have an advatage of applying different positions.
In my opinion, foreign language study is an essential part of studies because it prepare students for their future lives and careers. Learning another language may help students to develop important skills such as communication, confidence and problem solving. As a result, learners may have better experience and career opportunities in their interested fields.
In conclusion, foreign language study offers significant benefits, including improved communication, greater cultural understanding and better career prospects. In my opinion, it should be considered a crucial part of education because these skills can help students both academically and in their future personal and professional lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing potential benefits, such as communication and career opportunities, and clearly stating a position that foreign language study is an important part of education. The ideas presented are generally relevant, satisfying the requirements for this band level. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or lack extension with specific examples. For instance, the point about career opportunities is raised but relies on general statements rather than fully explored scenarios. To move towards higher bands, the writer should ensure that all main ideas are thoroughly extended with robust explanations and specific, concrete examples rather than broad over-generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as communication benefits and career prospects. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the main advantages', 'Another important advantage', and 'In conclusion', which helps to structure the essay effectively. However, referencing is sometimes mechanical, and paragraphing could be managed with greater flexibility to avoid formulaic transitions. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to make cohesive relationships flow more naturally and seamlessly without relying so heavily on standard transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proficiency', 'prospects', and 'crucial part'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form. Examples include the phrase 'if people known to' instead of 'know', and the spelling error 'advatage'. Furthermore, expressions like 'different language proficiency' could be phrased more naturally. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score. To reach a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and use less common vocabulary with greater precision, style awareness, and spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures like conditional sentences and subordinate clauses. However, there are several grammatical errors present throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement and structural issues such as 'more than one or more languages should be studied', 'demand employees those who can', and 'because it prepare students'. Punctuation and article usage also show occasional lapses. These errors occur regularly alongside error-free sentences, but they rarely impede overall communication. To progress further, the writer needs to increase control over complex grammatical structures and eliminate recurring errors in verb forms and agreement.
