Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt partially by discussing the benefits of foreign language study and expressing a clear position agreeing that it is an important part of education. However, some ideas remain limited and under-developed, relying on repetitive points without sufficient extension. Furthermore, it is important to note that the response contains only 218 words, thus failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts task completion. Additionally, 29 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from the official word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the text with basic paragraphing and attempts to sequence ideas, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'one of the reasons' and similar transitional phrases. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, which disrupts the flow of the argument. To improve, the writer needs to use a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure a smoother logical progression between paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'multinational companies' and 'international environment', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'wiyh', 'oreign', 'languges', and 'memories' instead of 'memorise'. These lexical errors and limitations cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to a lower band. Developing a more precise and accurate vocabulary range is essential for higher achievement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of structures with frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'A few individuals believes' and 'todays world are', as well as incorrect article usage and faulty attempts at complex sentence forms, as seen in 'results feeling more confident'. Punctuation is also problematic in places. To reach higher bands, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic grammatical patterns and increase the variety of error-free complex sentences.
