Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially because it falls short of the required word limit, containing only 203 words against the minimum of 250. The ideas presented are limited and under-developed. While the student outlines some differences between government and private educational sectors regarding foreign language study, the reasoning remains simplistic. For instance, the claim that graduates from government universities face poverty with no future is an over-generalisation and lacks well-supported arguments. The writer does give a direct opinion on whether foreign language study is important, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organization evident in the writing, contrasting government schooling with private schooling, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but paragraph boundaries and internal sequencing are erratic, with abrupt transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrases like 'For example' and 'Second section'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it sometimes difficult to follow the logical flow of arguments from one sentence to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. There is an attempt to use topic-related terms such as 'ciriculum', 'goverment', and 'prospective', but these are marred by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'pirorities' and 'fullfill'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and word formation issues like 'education system is divide' indicate a lack of precision in word form. These lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside unsuccessful attempts at complex forms. Frequent errors are present in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. Examples like 'There education ciriculum does not include' and 'If student become engineer' demonstrate frequent basic errors that cause considerable difficulty and strain for the reader throughout the response.
