Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary era, international languages are playing an important role in particular individual's life. Considering the importance, some learning organizations are offering foreign language whereas others have it as a requirement. The following essay intend to discuss the advantages and the importance of languages other than the native language.

To begin with, people in the modern world are more eager to explore new cultures and rituals. For that purpose they like to travel around the world and make new experiences. Individuals who are travelling to other countries may not know the lingua of that particular nation. Therefore, if the persons they interact with know other languages, they might feel their stay easier. For example if a person from india travels to France, he/she might face several obstacles during their stay such as food ordering, transportation and shopping etcetera. Wheras if he/she is familiar with basic english, can get some help from other natives as english is a language which is known worldwide.

On the flip side of the coin, when we look into the importance of foreign language as a part of schooling, I do not believe that it must be a part of it. If someone think that there is a need to learn the forign language, they can join the private institutes which offer to teach such liguistics. Moreover, every person nowadays have access to the internet. Therefore, accessing the online translators is just a piece of cake, which makes learning international languages less important.

To conclude, knowing the international language is an asset but it is not that important in today's world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both the benefits of learning another language and whether it belongs in education, and your position is ultimately that it is useful but not essential. The travel example—an Indian visitor in France needing help with food, transport and shopping—makes one benefit concrete. However, the discussion is only partial: most of the benefit section focuses on travel, while the question invites a broader account, such as cultural understanding, study or employment. Your view that language study should not be compulsory is stated, but the internet-translator point is asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion does not resolve the tension between calling language an asset and saying it is not important. Develop and support both parts more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas generally follow a sensible order. Connectors such as “To begin with,” “Therefore” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the essay is sometimes mechanical, and some links are not fully logical: “On the flip side of the coin” suggests a contrast, but the paragraph shifts from travel benefits to whether languages should be compulsory without clearly connecting those points. The final paragraph is very brief and does not bring the main reasons together. Use clearer topic sentences and refer back to the central question as you develop each paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “foreign language,” “native language,” “cultures” and “online translators,” and expressions such as “an asset” show an attempt to vary your wording. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the response less clear. Examples include “lingua” for the language spoken in a country, “learning organizations” for educational institutions, and “less important” where the intended meaning may be that language learning is less necessary. There are also spelling errors such as “Wheras,” “forign” and “liguistics.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “if a person … travels to France” and a reason clause beginning “Considering the importance.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “The following essay intend” has subject–verb disagreement, while “If someone think … they can join” also needs agreement. In “if he/she is familiar with basic english, can get some help,” the second clause lacks a subject. Other problems include “every person … have access” and inconsistent pronoun agreement in “the persons … they.” Practise checking each clause for a clear subject and correctly matched verb, as well as sentence punctuation.
