Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many educational systems nowadays require younger students to study not just one local language but also another foreign language. Whereas selected schools still operate that do not require children to adapt to this new additional language curriculum. In my view, I agree that the possibility of learning a new language has a positive impact on society's lives in general.

Children who are impacted by the additional language at their school show evident improvement. For instance, once a child finishes their degree and has another certification of their bilingual skills will have a higher salary than a job seeker who only knows one language. Companies hiring translators in their company are willing to pay an exorbitant amount. Students who have these extra skills are proven to have a comfortable life.

Moreover, even if this spreads widely, through the effect of some sort of advantages, some still are not showing interest in this kind of platform because they are having trouble memorising and understanding different languages, like their alphabet and pronunciation. Therefore, in limited schools, students can still choose which path they are choosing. It really depends on the person's needs, passion, and interest. Say for example, in a country like Canada, learning a different language like French will add to the score for a chance to get approved for permanent residence. Additionally, it is also useful when travelling abroad to a country that speaks that language

To conclude, even though learning another language is hard at a young age, it still shows that having these skills will give significant benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both the benefits of learning a foreign language and whether it belongs in education, and your position is clear: you support its inclusion. The examples of improved job prospects, translation work and travel are relevant. However, the benefits are not developed evenly: the employment point is asserted rather than explained, and the Canada example about permanent residence is introduced without clarifying how language ability affects approval. The discussion of students who struggle with languages adds a qualification, but it does not fully explore how schools could respond. To strengthen the response, explain each example more precisely and connect it directly to why language study is an important part of education.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing broadly separates the main benefits from the qualification, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Moreover” and “To conclude” help readers follow the direction. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “Moreover, even if this spreads widely, through the effect of some sort of advantages” does not clearly show how the ideas relate, while “Therefore” introduces a choice of school path without a clear preceding cause. The final paragraph repeats the general conclusion rather than drawing together the specific benefits. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph develop one clearly connected point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “bilingual skills,” “translators,” “memorising,” “pronunciation” and “permanent residence.” Some attempts at less common or formal language show ambition, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “adapt to this new additional language curriculum,” “an exorbitant amount” and “this kind of platform.” These expressions make parts of the argument less precise, even though the overall meaning remains understandable. Aim for natural collocations and choose words that match the intended meaning rather than simply sounding formal. For example, describe students as studying or learning a language, and explain that employers may offer higher pay for particular language skills.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a concession beginning “even though.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some sentence structures and verb patterns are inaccurate. The opening “Whereas selected schools still operate that do not require…” is an incomplete, awkwardly formed clause. In “once a child finishes their degree and has another certification … will have,” the subject and verb structure do not connect correctly. “It really depends on the person's needs, passion, and interest” also shifts from plural students to a singular person. Review clause construction, subject–verb relationships and consistent pronoun reference; clearer sentence boundaries would make your complex ideas easier to follow.
