Student answer (Band 5.5)

Children are encouraged to study on or more foreign languages in some educational systems, while others is not mandatory. I partialy believe learning foreign languages is an important part of education because it helps to find a job in a particluar country. Therefore, the benefits of studying other languages are to ensure that you have financial security, able to understand and help elderly people.

Foreign language should be learned and understood by every individual. Thus, learning the language would encourage the indivudual to find a job in a particular country. For example, as an international student, learning french is Canada is a bonus point on getting job offers, when the country has certain languages, it is motivated to knoe and understand their own languages.

Also, I think that when you have financial security in the particular country through job and when you have learnedthe language, it provides security to the people especially elderly ones that are facing difficulties to understand other languages. So you are able to help and assist them. For example, I remember when I went to bank and the elderly people were in the line an they were for someone who speaks Punjabi, but the language spoke here are English and French, there was a guy who help that lady through speaking punjabi, that showed that a job requires you to speak most of language that is required.

However, I also disagree because I believe in learning the most spoken language which is English. I prefer to speak in English all the time as it is the most convenient language to learn and able to speak. Looking at the universities, exams, lectures are all prepared and talked about in English to every individual, thus, it is important to know the most spoken language.

T conclude, I partially think that children should learn foreign for financial security but I also think that everyone should learn English as most countries speak.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both the benefits of learning another language and whether it belongs in education, and your position is partly clear: you support foreign-language study for employment and helping older people, while also emphasising English. The examples about a French-speaking international student in Canada and assisting a Punjabi-speaking bank customer make the discussion relevant. However, the response only partially develops the task. The benefits are mainly repeated as employment or financial security, and the final paragraph shifts towards English without clearly explaining how this qualifies your view on studying foreign languages. Develop a broader benefit, such as cultural understanding or access to study, and explain why English should be prioritised alongside other languages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits, a contrasting point, and a conclusion. Examples are generally placed near the ideas they support, which helps the reader follow the discussion. However, progression is uneven: the first two body paragraphs both return to employment and security, while the paragraph beginning “However” introduces English without clearly connecting it to the earlier argument. Linking expressions such as “Thus,” “Also,” and “However” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not show the precise relationship between ideas. The bank anecdote also becomes difficult to follow near its ending. Give each paragraph one distinct purpose and use clearer references and transitions to show how each point supports your overall position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial security,” “job offers,” “international student,” and “assist,” and the examples show an attempt to express specific situations. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “language,” “job,” and “particular country.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “partialy,” “particluar,” “bonus point,” and “the language spoke here.” These sometimes make the intended meaning less clear or sound unnatural. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for employment, communication, and cultural benefits, and check spelling carefully. For example, “bonus point” could be replaced with “an advantage,” and “find a job” with “secure employment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and examples introduced by “For example.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. Examples include “others is not mandatory,” “I partialy believe,” “learning french is Canada,” and “there was a guy who help that lady.” Some sentences are also incomplete or awkwardly joined, as in “Therefore, the benefits … are to ensure that you have financial security, able to understand…” These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense. Then use a few controlled complex structures rather than joining several ideas into one sentence.
