Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an essay discussing the advantages and disadvantages of relying on convenience food, but you have written a personal letter to a friend about childcare arrangements. Because you have failed to address the task prompt entirely, the score for Task Achievement is severely impacted. Additionally, the response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, which further limits the development of any relevant ideas. To improve, you must carefully read the task instructions and ensure your response directly answers the specific question asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter has a basic structure with a greeting, body paragraphs, and a closing. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the childcare arrangement and the planned activities is abrupt. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes misused, such as the awkward phrasing in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively organize the ideas into a coherent flow. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'spend time' and 'have lunch'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'retuning home' (likely a typo for returning) and 'can I prepare in advanced'. To improve, try to incorporate a broader range of vocabulary and focus on correct collocations. Using more precise adjectives and verbs will help convey your message more effectively and demonstrate a higher level of language proficiency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('go white rock'), incorrect verb forms ('I hope are doing well'), and punctuation issues. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors that affect clarity. For example, 'please let me know their favourite food can I prepare in advanced' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
