Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 181 words. This significant under-length results in an incomplete response, as the disadvantages of eating out are not addressed at all, and the conclusion is missing. While the prompt asks for both advantages and disadvantages, the essay only touches upon two advantages before ending abruptly. The ideas presented, such as saving money and time, are relevant but remain underdeveloped due to the lack of a full argument and the absence of the second half of the task. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt and provide a balanced discussion with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization by using transition words like 'firstly' and 'secondly'. However, the progression is severely hampered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the structure is weak, and the lack of a conclusion makes the overall flow disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, and there are issues with punctuation, such as the misuse of semicolons and colons (e.g., 'fristly: there are many merits'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall arrangement is not fully coherent due to the abrupt ending.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'outside food', 'eat', and 'money'. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'fristly', 'faimy', 'reasturant', and 'grociers', which occasionally make the meaning harder to follow. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to lifestyle and nutrition, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('every one have', 'everyone is busy in their busy schedule'), article usage, and word order ('instead of herself at home'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent use of semicolons and colons. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
