Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the salad days of millennium, the society is polarized into two groups whether to eat pre packed food or healthy home cooked food. Different people have their distinct mindset. The ensuring line will attempt to put the various reason along with my personal opinion in the following paragraph.

To commence with the first notion, there are myriad of things in its favour, the foremost one is convenience and accessibility as in this competitive era, where working schedules are turned to 9 to 9, people do not have time to cook food at home even though some employees have to go for regular meetings to different cities, so they prefer this kind of food in which they have to pay for food and heat in the microwave rather than cooking from scratch. For instance, a survey conducted in last month regarding the sale of frozen food and reason of buying it, it show that there was 40% increase in the count from previous one just because it is convenient to take and eat.

Shifting towards its counterpart arguments, the drawback of eating food from restaurants and packed meal is heath impact since eating this kind of food is now become a status symbol and people want to eat as much as they can but on other side it put adverse effect on their health like heart diseases, weight gain, high cholesterol. The reason for this is high preservative used to increase the shelf live. A recent counts show that there was increase in heart problem among youngster who eats unhealthy food. thus, people have to stop eating this.

Hammering the last nail, I personally feel that home cook food is a good option for people whether they are working full time or part time just for their health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of relying on convenience food. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention convenience and health impacts, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the reference to a 'survey' is vague and lacks detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear reasoning and concrete illustrations. Your position is generally clear, but the introduction is slightly confusing due to the use of idiomatic expressions like 'salad days of millennium,' which do not fit the context of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward. Phrases like 'To commence with the first notion' and 'Hammering the last nail' are unnatural and do not effectively link ideas. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from convenience to the survey is abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences using more natural linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, but there are several instances of inappropriate word choice and awkward phrasing. For example, 'salad days of millennium' is misused, and 'ensuring line' is not standard English. There are also errors in collocation, such as 'high preservative used' instead of 'high levels of preservatives' and 'shelf live' instead of 'shelf life.' While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your main points, you need to focus on using words more accurately and naturally to achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the society is polarized,' 'it show that there was'), article usage, and tense consistency. For example, 'eating this kind of food is now become' should be 'has now become.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
