Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of convenience food, though the development of these ideas is limited. The introduction is somewhat confused, as it mentions being in favour of the 'latter notion' without clearly defining what that refers to in the context of the prompt. While the essay touches on health issues and convenience, the arguments are often repetitive and lack specific, well-supported examples. The conclusion is also slightly contradictory, as it suggests home-cooked food is better but then concedes that frozen food is acceptable on occasion. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, clearly articulated point supported by a logical explanation and a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Shifting towards final view', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or sound unnatural. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'moderate generation' and the arguments provided is difficult to follow. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the overall structure feel mechanical rather than fluid. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, with several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices. For example, 'believe on eating house' and 'moderate generation' are not standard English collocations. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'convenience food' and 'packaged meals', but the overall range is narrow. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'stay live long' instead of 'promote longevity'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning common collocations and using a wider variety of precise vocabulary to express your ideas, rather than relying on basic or misused terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people are believing'), article usage (e.g., 'a increase number'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to parse. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed before commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions.
