Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of relying on restaurants and convenience foods. A clear position is established in the introduction, stating that there are both merits and drawbacks. The ideas are relevant and generally extended, such as mentioning convenience, time-saving aspects for busy workers, health concerns regarding lack of nutrients, and increased financial expenses. However, some of the supporting explanations tend to generalise or repeat concepts, such as stating that frozen food lacks nutrients and causes infections without further specific development. Nevertheless, the main requirements of the prompt are satisfactorily covered, which aligns well with a Band 6.0 descriptor profile.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion into distinct blocks. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive transitional phrases like 'To illustrante it' and 'The another reason for it'. Paragraph transitions could be smoother, and the relationships between sentences are occasionally hindered by awkward mechanical connectors. This places the response firmly within the Band 6 descriptor range for cohesion and logical organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'convenience food', 'hectic schedule', and 'expenses'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'parahgraph', 'ides', 'conveince', 'frozon', 'unhealy', and 'illstrate'. Furthermore, some collocations are awkward or inaccurate, such as 'for order at restaurants we spend money'. These errors do not impede overall communication, as the writer's meaning remains clear, but the frequency of slips prevents the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 5.5 an accurate reflection of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there are persistent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the essay. Examples include missing articles ('purchase the many ingredients', 'for order at restaurants'), incorrect verb forms and agreement ('this technique is time saving for that people who are working', 'its also increase our expenses'), and prepositional errors ('with in single click'). While these errors do not fully impede communication, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, which corresponds directly to the official Band 5.5 criteria for grammar.
