Student answer (Band 5.0)
Now a days the trend is growing much faster that people are prefering to eat on restaurants rather then home. This trend is more popular in youth. There are lot of reasons why people are chosing restaurants, but I believe the main reason is now the restaurants started their publications by uploadings photos of foods on social media. These catchy pics attracts especially youth to eat on resutaurants. Other possible reasons people are being to busy in other activities . They have to do lots of work for living and they have little time to coock food so they prefer to going on restaurants because their they are served within a mintues . Now a days restaurants have improved their quality of foods . Foods are cleen and tasty and more delicious so people are more attracted to delicious food. Eating on restaurants have adavantages and disadvantages. The advantage is on the restaurants you can eat variety of food within little time. But on the other hand eating on restaurants have disadvantages too. Restaurants are too costy and we cannot see that how they coocked food so might be their chances that food may be unhygenic. Similarly if you coock the same food in home you can save money because eating in home is budget friendly and because your are preparing yourself so, you are aware that the food you prepared is cleen. And furthermore you can coock food according to your taste. For example last night I went to the restaurant and I ordered some food I must give credit the quality of the food was good but it was too expensive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of eating out, which satisfies the basic requirements of the task. However, the treatment of these ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the advantage is briefly noted as eating a variety of food quickly, while the disadvantages mention cost and hygiene concerns, but these points lack extension or detailed supporting examples. The personal example provided at the end ('last night I went to the restaurant') is brief and does not fully develop a clear argument. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the text, as ideas tend to be listed rather than explored in depth. To move closer to a higher band, the writer needs to expand on each point with well-reasoned explanations and concrete examples rather than relying on brief generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some overall organisation, attempting to cover both sides of the issue, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The writing suffers from inadequate and repetitive use of cohesive devices, with sentences frequently linked by basic conjunctions like 'and' or sequence words without smooth transitions. Paragraphing is poorly managed; the entire response is clumped into a single block of text rather than being divided into a logical structure featuring an introduction, body paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as when pronouns like 'their' and 'they' are used ambiguously. To achieve a higher band, the writer must organise the essay into distinct paragraphs and employ a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader clearly through the arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message about restaurants and home-cooked food. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'convenience food', 'budget friendly', and 'unhygenic', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form, including 'prefering', 'chosing', 'publications', 'uploadings', 'resutaurants', 'costy', and 'cleen'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and impede fluent communication. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and use vocabulary more naturally and accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, mostly consisting of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing or incorrect articles, and errors in prepositions and verb complements, such as 'people are prefering to eat on restaurants rather then home', 'people are being to busy', and 'prefer to going on restaurants'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and comma splices affecting readability. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, improve agreement and verb forms, and successfully incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex structures.
