Student answer (Band 6.0)

The influence of restaurants and convenience food is overtaking the home cooked meals. Most of us are finding it an easy swap for our daily consumption. There are various advantages and disadvantages for the same and the following essay will disclose the same using relevant examples.

Being time efficient is one of the primary benefits of such dietary method. For instance, people working most hours in their day find it easy to buy snacks and meals from outside instead of cooking it at home. As a result, they end up saving more time instead of buying groceries and cooking food. Moreover, it becomes convenient rather than to brainstorm to decide what to eat everyday.

On the other side, this easiness comes at a cost of unhealthy eating habits. People get more sick and weaken their immunity system by ignoring nutritional factor. Consequently, it can cause serious diseases later in life. According to the reports, many convenience stores end up selling packaged meals which are near or about the expire. For instance, Adam Kyle, a news report and an athlete suggests that eating habits can be changed when scheduled properly. He promotes cooking at home can be easy if a person can learn the technique of meal prep once in a week

In conclusion it can be stated, that food should be consumed according to our body needs. When a meal is prepared at home with clean ingredients and with fresh vegetables, it results in more satisfaction and rich. That being said, fast food can be eaten but when planned occasionally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: convenience saves time, while relying on these foods may harm health, and home cooking is presented as the preferable option. The examples about busy workers and packaged meals are relevant. However, the advantages are developed more clearly than the disadvantages: the claim that these foods weaken immunity and cause serious diseases needs explanation or a more specific example. The reference to Adam Kyle and meal preparation is also not clearly connected to the point about food nearing its expiry date. To strengthen the response, explain the health risks more precisely and make each example directly support the advantage or disadvantage being discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion, so the overall arrangement is coherent. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is less clear: the discussion of near-expiry packaged meals shifts abruptly to Adam Kyle’s advice about meal preparation, without explaining the connection. The repeated wording “the same” in the introduction is also vague, and the conclusion introduces fresh points about clean ingredients and satisfaction rather than simply drawing together the main argument. Use clearer references and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “convenient,” “nutritional,” “immunity,” and “meal prep,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “primary benefits” and “Consequently.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “dietary method,” “weaken their immunity system,” and “results in more satisfaction and rich.” “The influence … is overtaking” is also an awkward way to describe the growing reliance in the prompt. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they limit precision. Aim for natural combinations such as “way of eating,” “weaken the immune system,” and “more satisfying and nutritious.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some more complex forms, including cause-and-effect structures such as “As a result” and “Consequently,” and a conditional clause in “when planned occasionally.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions recur. For example, “instead of cooking it at home” has an unclear pronoun reference, while “rather than to brainstorm” does not form a parallel comparison. In “He promotes cooking at home can be easy,” the clause needs a structure such as “He promotes the idea that cooking at home can be easy.” The final sentence also needs clearer punctuation and construction. Practise building accurate comparisons and subordinate clauses, and check articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries during revision.
