Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both sides of the question: convenience food can save preparation time, while food bought outside the home may be less healthy; you also mention cost and give an example about obesity in America. However, these points are brief and are not sufficiently explained or supported, so the response only partially develops the task. The conclusion gives a clear recommendation to prepare meals at home, but your overall position and comparison of advantages and disadvantages could be clearer. The response contains 179 words, so it is 71 words below the 250-word minimum; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Use the extra space to explain each main point and add a relevant, specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall sequence: you introduce the topic, discuss time and health, add a point about cost, and finish with a recommendation. This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, the response is presented largely as one continuous block, and the progression between ideas is not always clear. For example, the shift from health concerns to the statistic about America and then to the cost of home cooking is abrupt. Linking expressions such as “in contrast” and “in addition” are attempted, but punctuation and sentence boundaries make their relationships difficult to follow. Separate the response into clear paragraphs for the introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion, and use linking phrases to show how each point connects.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “packaged meals,” “free time,” “health,” “obesity,” and “convenience food.” These choices make your main ideas understandable. However, the range is limited, and repeated basic terms such as “food,” “people,” and “time” reduce precision. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including “disatvantages,” “ingridiants,” “officient,” and “spencing,” which can make the reader pause. Some phrases are not natural in this context, such as “gain time preparing their food home” and “banck acount.” Build a more accurate range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; for example, describe meals as “time-saving” or “nutritionally poor.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “which means” and “because,” and you include a concluding sentence. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. In “relying on frozen food and packaged meals make people gain time,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence lacks clear punctuation. The opening also needs a complete, correctly punctuated sentence, while “its more officient” shows problems with the contraction and sentence construction. Use shorter, complete sentences first, then add complex structures with accurate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
