Student answer (Band 6.5)

The word transportation plays a crucial role in the lives of every individuals. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of people in many parts of the world who rely on private cars, and in my opinion, the positives in the usage of private transport outweigh it negatives. The positive of using own vehicles which we are going to discuss in this essay are, easy access and less travel time when compared to public transport. Additionally, carpooling will help them travel in a cost effective manner, while the negatives are stressful drive, and its expensive nature on long drives

One the one hand, depending private vehicles will help people to reach anywhere in less time compared to any other mode of transportation. People can travel anywhere and reach their destination on time when they use there own car, while people who use public mode of transportation will have longer waiting periods or even face cancellation of services by not even knowing its reason. For example, I used to travel in Government operated transit services and have encountered with situations when I go for my work late because, the service is either halted or cancelled for no reasons.

Another reason is its ease of access, because when we have our own car, we don't need to rely on anything else. Moreover, many people nowadays do carpooling has also made it cost effective.

However, using private cars are super-expensive while taking a long drive which is somewhat a stressful task and for that reason, many choose public transportation for ling range travels.

To conclude with, using own vehicle will reduce overall travel time and easy access compared to public transportation. On the

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how reliance on cars affects our lives and whether these effects are positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like time-saving and carpooling, the explanation remains superficial. The negative aspects, such as stress and cost, are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with sufficient detail. The conclusion is incomplete, which impacts the overall clarity of your position. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a clear, well-supported argument with specific examples, and always complete your concluding summary to reinforce your main stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'On the one hand', and 'However'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and incomplete sentences, particularly in the final paragraph. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the positives in the usage of private transport outweigh it negatives'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next without abrupt shifts in topic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'transportation', 'cost-effective', and 'transit services'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'depending private vehicles' (should be 'depending on') and 'encountered with situations'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the vocabulary lacks the precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning common collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repeating basic words like 'use' or 'travel'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the positives... outweigh it negatives'), incorrect preposition usage ('depending private vehicles'), and article errors ('the service is either halted... for no reasons'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the final sentence is left unfinished. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors such as pluralisation, verb forms, and prepositions. Practising complex sentence structures like conditionals or relative clauses will also help you demonstrate better grammatical control.
