Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent years, it has been witnessed that there is a significant change in lifestyle of people living. In different parts of world, people mostly depend on private cars for transportation as it gives us the feeling of independence. I believe that it is a positive development because it facilitates us in time-saving and provides safety.

First and foremost, the most significant advantage of rely on private cars is time-saving. When people travel by there own car it reduces there commuting time and they can reach their destination on time. Moreover, it provides us the safety as when we travel by public transportation, sometimes passengers face the problem of safety and security. For example, mostly female feel unsafe while traveling by public transportation because in public transportation they are molest by male passengers.

Furthermore, relying on private car allow more safety to your belongings in comparison to public transportation. In public transportation there is always a fear of theft. Moreover, private cars allow us to travel comfortably from one place to another. In addition to it. in developing countries people have more funds to buy their own cars.

On the other hand, critics believe that if there will be more cars on road then it will lead in increase in congestion on roads. Moreover, with more traffic on road, there will be more chances of accidents. Furthermore, with more and more private car, there will be more air and noise pollution.

In conclusion, although there are some demerits like congestion on roads but the benefits are significantly important like time-saving, safety and security. In my opinion, there should be a balanced approach so that we can eliminate the disadvantages and move towards the sustainable future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying both the effects of private car reliance and expressing a clear position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the mention of 'funds to buy their own cars' in the third paragraph, are not fully developed or directly linked to the main argument of safety. The conclusion provides a summary, but the development of the 'positive' argument could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the sentence fragment 'In addition to it. in developing countries'. Despite these minor flaws, the overall structure is coherent and supports the reader's understanding.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'congestion', 'sustainable', and 'transportation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'molest by male passengers' (should be 'molested') and 'rely on private cars' (should be 'relying on'). The range is sufficient for the task, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and word forms (e.g., 'there own car' instead of 'their own car', 'it reduces there commuting time' instead of 'their'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
