Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 189 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments regarding the positive and negative effects are underdeveloped and lack depth. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt, the brevity prevents a full exploration of the topic. The conclusion is also abrupt and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples to ensure the response is sufficiently comprehensive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'To commence with' and 'In other words'. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the lack of a clear, developed conclusion makes the overall progression feel incomplete. While there is a basic logical flow, the limited length and repetitive sentence structures hinder the development of a cohesive argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', or 'use'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'vehicales' instead of 'vehicles' and 'shoping' instead of 'shopping'. The phrase 'monocarbon oxide gas' is scientifically inaccurate and suggests a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including collocations and topic-specific terminology, and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate word usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'no need for wait' instead of 'no need to wait', 'despite to others' instead of 'compared to others', and 'it will reduced' instead of 'it will reduce'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalisation. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors and the lack of complex sentence structures limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
