Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the ways in which reliance on cars affects life and whether these effects are positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention time-saving and emergency assistance as positive aspects, and maintenance costs and health issues as negative ones, these points are not fully extended with detailed examples or logical depth. The introduction is also quite weak, as it fails to clearly paraphrase the prompt or outline your position effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by a clear, specific example or a more detailed explanation of the consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'However'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition in the third paragraph regarding 'showing off'. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making some sentences feel disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'owening' (owning), 'vehicals' (vehicles), 'decreminitial' (detrimental), and 'maintainence' (maintenance). Furthermore, some word choices are inaccurate, such as using 'communication' when you likely meant 'transportation' or 'commuting'. To improve, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms related to the topic of transportation and urban living, rather than relying on basic, repetitive language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'most of people owening', 'Personal cars has'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading your work to correct basic errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
