Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the effects of car reliance and whether these are positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention benefits like convenience and drawbacks like pollution and traffic, these points are not fully extended or supported with specific examples. The position is somewhat inconsistent; you argue that the effects are positive in the introduction and first body paragraph, but then shift to discussing drawbacks without clearly reconciling these opposing views in a balanced way. To improve, ensure each main idea is supported by a clear explanation or a concrete example to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Such we dont have wait' and 'Now on the second' are awkward transitions that do not effectively link ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'nevertheless') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'go anywhere' and 'save the money' are used multiple times. There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'personal works' (should be 'personal errands') and 'drive very rough' (should be 'drive recklessly'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and precision in word choice limits the score. Incorporating more topic-specific vocabulary related to transportation and urban planning would significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in highways'), incorrect verb forms, and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces missing after commas and periods. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to cause some difficulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
