Student answer (Band 6.0)

Transportation plays vital role in everyday life. In major part of world person choose their own vehicle to travel. It has both good and bad consequences, which would be discussed in the forthcoming paragraph.

To start with positive side, Travelling by personal motor vehicle helps saving time. For instance, During the time of any emergency person can reach much faster than using the public transit. Adding on, it provides the comfort which is imperial for long journeys especially for old people. Furthermore, Personal vehicle provides more privacy and safety of an individual compared to public transport. As trains and buses poses risk of getting robbed or harmed. To add on, using government transit can spread the disease by using the common bathroom or space with peoples affected by it. Like, during the Covid time using the public transit was life threatening as person might catch the disease.

On the other hand negative side, private cars leads to environmental damage. For example, if each and everyone would choose their own vehicle then it means more fuel would be wasted and efficiency of fuel would decrease as people reaching same destination would go separately. Moreover, It will cause immense traffic on roads due to increased vehicles. After that, pollution would exponentially grow specially air and noise pollution as car emits harmful gas like CO2 and horn and engine creates louder noise which affects human as well as animals.

To sum up, using own vehicles has merits like getting comfort and safety were as it has demerits like harms the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the ways reliance on cars affects life and providing a clear stance on whether these effects are positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as time-saving and privacy for the positive side, and environmental damage and traffic for the negative side. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of 'Covid time' as a reason to avoid public transport is a relevant observation, but the argument could be more sophisticated. The conclusion is brief and simply restates the points rather than synthesising them. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your examples with more depth and nuance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the positive aspects, then the negative aspects, and finally the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'To start with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'After that' to introduce a new point about pollution. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'public transit', 'environmental damage', and 'air and noise pollution'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'imperial' (likely meant 'imperative') and 'poses risk' (should be 'pose a risk'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader from your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'In major part of world'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'private cars leads'), and punctuation mistakes. For instance, 'Like, during the Covid time...' is an informal and grammatically incorrect way to introduce an example. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly article usage and verb agreement, will significantly improve your writing.
