Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people tend to rely more on personal vehicles rather than using public transportation believing that it is more time saving. I strongly believe that using private cars has more negative effects on the environment than using public transportation. My viewpoints are explained in the following paragraphs.

In this fast pacing time, some people think that having their own vehicle is very important as it saves lot of time and it is convenient to go anywhere rather then relying on buses or trains as people need to go to the bus station to catch the bus and then it also don't drop them at their desired location. Moreover, it is also a comfort factor for some people as the infrastructure of car is way much better than a bus and one can listen to music use air conditioning or heater as per weather which is not always the case with public transportation.

Using private car have more negative effects on our lives as they emit large amounts of pollutants which erodes our ozone layer and increases temperature. It is also very expensive to own or finance a car as many factors like cost, insurance and maintenance of car needs to be consider and many people cannot afford it during current inflation period. For instance, a person who travels via bus in Canada has to pay $350 yearly and person who travels by cars have to pay almost $1000 monthly. Moreover, it also creates lots of traffic and air pollution too as bus have a capacity of 30 people and private cars have capacity of 4.

In conclusion, using private cars has more negative effects rather than positive oes

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the ways reliance on cars affects life and whether these effects are positive or negative. However, the development is uneven. While the second paragraph provides some relevant points regarding convenience and comfort, the third paragraph attempts to cover too many disparate ideas—environmental impact, financial burden, and traffic congestion—without fully exploring any of them. The conclusion is abrupt and incomplete, failing to provide a summary or final thought. To reach a higher band, you should focus on developing two clear, distinct arguments rather than listing several points briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from the benefits of cars to the drawbacks. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Moreover' is used twice in close proximity). Additionally, the final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main thesis statement.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'infrastructure' and 'pollutants', but these are occasionally used with slight inaccuracies in collocation or context. Some phrasing is simplistic, such as 'fast pacing time' or 'comfort factor'. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal or redundant phrasing. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary would also help convey your arguments with more sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Using private car have', 'bus have a capacity', 'maintenance of car needs to be consider') and punctuation errors. Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary articles. These errors do not typically impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
