Student answer (Band 6.0)
In most of the parts of the world , individual's rely on private cars for transportation. Reliance on private cars affect the way we live in both positive and negative manner.
Firstly, to reach at office or any destinated location people do not have to leave house too early because they know that they do not have to wait for the transport and this helps them to save time. For example, if they have to take bus they have to leave their house early and also have to change the mode of transport at different junctions and have to wait for the buses which results in wasting of time as if they have personal vehicle they can utilise this time.
Moreover, private cars are also beneficial if someone have big family. As if there are 5 members are in family and want to go on picnic, then private car is good for them rather than public transport. Also, people who live on countryside cannot have easily access to public transport. So private cars are good for them.
On the contrary, using public transport helps to save environment in different ways. For instance, more cars on road causes the air pollution, noise pollution and traffic which ultimately affects the health of the individuals. Furthermore, public transport is cheaper than private transport. So, using government vehicles can help in economic growth too.
In conclusion, relying on private cars for transportation is important to save time and for other different reasons but too much dependency can result in negative results like air and noise pollution in city or busy roads due to jams.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the ways in which reliance on cars affects our lives and whether these effects are positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about families is mentioned but not fully explored, and the environmental impact is discussed in a very general way. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-integrated examples. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure that the link between the cause (car reliance) and the effect (lifestyle changes) is more thoroughly analysed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'On the contrary', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise. For instance, the transition between the benefits of private cars and the environmental drawbacks could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one without repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'save time', and 'different ways'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'destinated location' (instead of 'destination') and 'government vehicles' (which is not a standard term for public transport). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to urban planning, transportation, and environmental impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'individual's rely', 'someone have'), article usage (e.g., 'reach at office', 'live on countryside'), and pluralisation errors (e.g., 'results in wasting of time'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammar, particularly with articles, prepositions, and verb forms, and attempt more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
