Student answer (Band 6.5)

The trend of using private modes of transportation among people can be observed in today*s scenario. However, dependence on the private vehicle can enhance productivity and provide convenience to general public, but it would also results in environmental deterioration and have deterimental effects on renewable resources. From my perspective, it would leads to negative consequences in the long run.

Undeniably, commuting through private mode of transportations provides next level comfort for long journeys and travel with families. Many people finds it extremely convenient to have own cars because they not only saves their time, but also offers flexibility. They become able to adjust their day schedule accordingly which would not be possible while travelling through public transportations. Furthermore, they simply devotes their travel time to work and other useful activities rather than on roads.

One of the most compelling argument to bolster my viewpoint toward its downside is that, people who resides in cities are considerably rely on private cars to travel to work. Thus, in many metropolitican areas, number of cars, taxis have been increasing to a large pace which further results in extra consumption of fuel and other sustainable resources. Simultaneously, it sketches negative impact on scarce resources in the environment such as coal and natural gases.

Another major fact is that, more transportation are resulting in immense establishment of new roads and highways. For such, engineers need forest land to build winding roads in the mountains like areas. This constructions leads to deforestation and removal of trees in remote areas. In addition to this, such circumstances would also decline the overall quality of air. A pertinent example can be seen in multi cities where the index of air quality is declining day by day due to smoke emissions caused by vehicles and badly impact the overall health of humans as well.

To conclude, dependency on private cars have provided enough comfort and flexibility to people working in big cities. This enables them to stay productive and focused. However, over-reliance on such technology can lead to deteriorating air quality through pollution and bring detrimental consequences on environment in the form of deforestation and over consumption of renewable resources in the long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying both the effects of private car reliance and providing a clear position that the consequences are negative. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the discussion on environmental degradation and deforestation. However, some points, such as the claim that people can 'devote their travel time to work' while driving, are slightly illogical, as driving requires full attention. The development is sufficient, though the conclusion could have more effectively synthesized the arguments rather than simply repeating them. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Thus', and 'In addition to this' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and occasionally the flow between sentences feels slightly disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor errors in pronoun usage occur. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the benefits to the environmental drawbacks.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terminology like 'environmental deterioration', 'metropolitan areas', and 'smoke emissions'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'at a large pace' (should be 'at a rapid pace') and 'more transportation are resulting' (should be 'increased traffic'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'next level comfort'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision and occasional errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Many people finds', 'people who resides', 'dependency... have provided'). There are also issues with article usage and pluralization (e.g., 'in multi cities', 'more transportation'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are missing spaces after some periods.
