Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying both the effects of car reliance and providing a balanced view on whether these effects are positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as pollution, health impacts, and time efficiency. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about 'extra income' via Uber is a bit narrow and could have been expanded to discuss broader economic impacts. The position is clear, but the conclusion is brief and lacks a strong summary of the main arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanations or specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', though some are used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'To be conclude with'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'according to that, they would have many pros and cons', where the pronoun 'they' does not clearly refer to a specific noun. The logical flow is generally maintained, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'immerging rapidly' (emerging), 'get a rid of' (get rid of), and 'debtor' (in debt). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'public transport facilities' and 'insurance', but the overall range is limited. To improve, the student should focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetitive or inaccurate word choices. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the misuse of basic vocabulary items hinders the expression of more complex ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('everyone have has to', 'individual have'), article usage ('the pollution in area'), and prepositional errors ('affects to the generation', 'compare to use of'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to eliminate these persistent errors. A greater variety of complex structures, used with more accuracy, would be required for a higher band score.
