Student answer (Band 6.5)

Transportation is playing pivotal role in this contemporary era, without it, life cannot be imagined. Personal vehicles has to be used by people as public transportation is not widely spread or hectic life has been adopted by people. This trend has negative impacts on everyone's life.

It is clearly seen that the cars makes our life easier by using them time has been saved. Therefore, people are multitasking as they completed different tasks in short period of time. for example, nowadays, personal care has been widely famous because personal support workers provide care to the patients at their homes. this is only possible if they use a personal vehicle to attend multiple patients in a short time period. Moreover, it represents the status of the individual in society. In addition, privacy is the next concern that nobody wants to share with others.

This trend has negative effects, if use of private car increases, automatically the demand of Petrol, diesel will rise that directly impact the prices of natural resources and high demand of cars itself shows boom in its price. Other highy extravagant effect is air pollution that gradually increases over time. For example, one report shows that the Air quality index rose by 80% in 2026 than past 10 years in some regions of Punjab. Air pollution causes different diseases like lung cancer that can not be ignored.

In conclusion, no doubt, usage of private cars makes everyone's life hurdle free and saves much time to use as a leisure. on the other hand, it affects the people's lifestyle by increasing the oil prices and scarcity of fuel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying both the ways reliance on cars affects life and providing a balanced view of positive and negative effects. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the positive aspects (time-saving, status) are mentioned, they are not fully explored or supported with deep analysis. The negative impacts, such as environmental concerns, are better developed with a specific example. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or a more detailed example to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'on the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation and sentence flow, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction ('Personal vehicles has to be used...'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'contemporary era', 'extravagant effect', and 'scarcity'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'personal care has been widely famous' (likely meaning 'personal support services') and 'hurdle free'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, which limits the score. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context will help improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('cars makes', 'vehicles has to be used'), missing articles ('the cars', 'the demand of Petrol'), and punctuation errors (missing commas after introductory phrases). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are persistent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
