Student answer (Band 5.0)
Now a days, we observe that there are many people who are using their own vehicles for moving rather then rely on public transport. But this choice make a negative impact on society. In the forthcoming paragraphs I would justify my opinion.
First of all, lots of persons believe that by using their personal cars they feel themselves comfortable and relax to move around the city. They do not want to wait for public transports. Another bad impact is that many people believe that it is a status symbol to move on your stylish expensive car. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 152 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay identifies some negative impacts of private car reliance, such as traffic congestion and pollution, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The prompt asks for an evaluation of both the ways we live and whether the effects are positive or negative; however, the response is incomplete and cuts off abruptly. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure the essay is fully developed to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition signals like 'First of all' and 'Another serious issue'. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is unfinished, which disrupts the overall flow. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly. The lack of a conclusion further hinders the coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'lots of persons' and 'bad impact' are simplistic. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'feel themselves comfortable and relax' instead of 'feel comfortable and relaxed' and 'move on your stylish expensive car' instead of 'drive a stylish, expensive car'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which prevents the expression of more complex ideas. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise, academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'Now a days' (should be 'Nowadays'), 'rather then' (should be 'rather than'), and 'this choice make' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and sentence structure is often awkward. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is high. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic spelling and punctuation errors.
