Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effects of private car reliance and identifying both positive and negative aspects. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'time' is mentioned in both the negative and positive sections without sufficient depth or nuanced analysis. The position is clear, but the supporting examples, such as the brother's car usage or the 9-minute commute, are simplistic and lack the necessary elaboration to reach a higher band. To improve, you should focus on expanding your arguments with more sophisticated reasoning and broader societal implications rather than relying on personal anecdotes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While transition phrases like 'On the first hand side' and 'On the other hand' are used, they are often misused or grammatically incorrect. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'In all family members have their own personal car', which makes the flow of ideas disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes inaccurate way. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each sentence clearly links to the previous one to create a smoother, more coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'car', 'time', and 'good/bad'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'highly increase the pollution' instead of 'significant increase in pollution' and 'pros and coins' instead of 'pros and cons'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, you should practice using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to transportation and environmental issues, and pay closer attention to word forms and common idiomatic expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Everyone have', 'he have', 'it also effects'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'My brother he have his own personal car.' The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with little evidence of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like 'effects' vs 'affects' is also essential.
