Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, most of the people utilise private cars for trasnportation to make their life easy. However, certaines persons think that this has a effect negative not only on the environment, but also on the health of living beings. Personnellement, I am against this method of using cars daily in our lives. I will explain this in the following paragraphes.

First of all, it is important to consider that this strategy has a negative effect on the nature. Actuellement, if almost all citizens use their personnel cars, then with the emission of toxic gases, pollution of air will increase consideralement. Hence, the life of all the living and non-living beings will be affected.

Moreover, it is necessary to note that, the health of citizens is also a key point to be consider. in addition to this, when number of persons like to use cars or motorcycles in their everyday life, then it increases traffic and which creates stress and anxiety for the persons.

On the other hand, it is essential that we take the importance of the private cars. For example, in the case of urgence, a person can utilise immediatement his car to reach to the hospital. In addition to this, personnal cars could help to save the time and to reach in the office, to attend a interview without any delay. This is the reason, certaines persons consider private cars a luxury.

In conclusion, I would like to say that this depend upon the need of a person, in the emergency, private cars play a role important. However, we should not forget negatives effects of using cars by most of the world everyday.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the ways private cars affect our lives and weighing both positive and negative effects. A clear position is established early on, stating that cars have negative environmental and health consequences while acknowledging their practical utility in emergencies. However, some ideas are somewhat basic and under-developed, such as the brief mentions of traffic, stress, and time-saving. The text leans towards generalisations rather than fully extended, robustly supported arguments. Therefore, it fits best within Band 6, where all parts of the task are addressed, but certain points require greater depth and development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both negative and positive aspects, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The student uses standard transitional phrases such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', but referencing and linking are sometimes awkward or unnatural, as seen in 'This is the reason, certaines persons consider private cars a luxury'. Additionally, the inclusion of French ('Personnellement') disrupts the cohesion and language register. These weaknesses place the response firmly at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words such as 'utilise', 'emission', and 'consideralement'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'trasnportation', 'certaines', 'effect negative', 'personnel', 'consideralement', 'urgence', 'immediatement', and 'personnual'. The use of foreign words ('Personnellement') and direct translation influences further detract from lexical control. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the message, but frequent errors in spelling and collocation keep the score at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative structures ('when number of persons like to use cars... then it increases traffic and which creates stress'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, incorrect prepositions, and article omissions, such as 'most of the people', 'has a effect negative', 'pollution of air', 'to be consider', and 'in the emergency'. Furthermore, sentence structures are occasionally awkward or ungrammatical, as in 'this depend upon the need of a person'. These errors sometimes cause slight difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.0.
