Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the ways reliance on private cars affects our lives and considering whether these effects are positive or negative. The student attempts to outline reasons for car dependency and explores both fruitful and adverse impacts, such as comfort, status, and environmental consequences. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, and the position is not consistently clear throughout due to imprecise expression. Phrases like 'when people get their own cars, then people always prefer to travel by car' lack deeper extension and concrete supporting examples from personal experience. Consequently, the response sits comfortably within Band 5, as the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and general.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some organisation with standard signposting phrases such as 'To commence with', 'Nevertheless', and 'In conclusion'. However, there is no clear overall logical progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the third paragraph is a massive block that clumsily attempts to merge multiple contrasting ideas ('Firstly, it is good...' transitioning immediately into 'However, On the other hand...'). Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, and cohesive devices are often inaccurate, repetitive, or poorly managed. For instance, sentences are joined in a run-on fashion using commas and coordinating conjunctions rather than precise logical links. Therefore, the overall organisational structure reflects the characteristics of Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited, repetitive range of vocabulary that is only minimally adequate for the task. Words and phrases such as 'going here and there', 'good', 'bad', and 'own cars' are recycled excessively. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate collocations throughout the text, such as 'high cab fairs' (fares), 'love to punctuality', and 'peer-pressure' used in an incorrect context regarding transport choices. While these lexical slips do not completely obscure the central meaning, they frequently cause strain for the reader and prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences are simple or awkwardly structured attempts at complex sentences that frequently fail grammatically, such as 'when they can travel for short distance as well as they can use the cars, when they become peer-pressure'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and tense usage (e.g., 'this trend have both positive', 'reach at the exact time on place'). These recurring errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and clearly align with the descriptors for Band 4.5 to 5.0, warranting a score of 5.0.
