Student answer (Band 6.0)
Transportation by private cars becomes a symbol of wealth in modern society. Reliance on private car affects humans in both positive and negative ways. I will discuss both ways in next paragraphs.
To commence with positive side, personal vehicle saves time of an individual. People don’t have to wait for a bus, train or another public transportation. They can go anywhere they want without thinking twice. It saves a person from climate conditions such as heavy rain, storms, snow and many more. It also provides a private space in public parkings, on trips and many other locations. Moreover, an individual can store his belongings in the car which are heavy to lift.
On the other side, the main negative impact it leaves is on the environment. When everyone has their own personal mode of transportation, then it creates more traffic on roads, which causes pollution such as air and noise. More vehicles directly leads to more accidents, which is a high risk to human lives. It is also a huge problem when roads are not wide enough. For example, In India, some roads are not wide enough for cars and cars tend to stuck in between which causes more traffic and misunderstandings between people. It takes lot more time than expected to exit.
In conclusion, people should buy their private vehicles in order to save their time and energy to cover long distances. But people should also take care of the environment by using public transportation or bicycles for short distances which is beneficial for their health as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the ways reliance on private cars affects our lives and whether these effects tend to be positive or negative. The introduction outlines the writer's stance, and both body paragraphs present relevant points, such as time-saving and convenience for the positive side, and environmental pollution and accidents for the negative side. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on the positive side lists several brief points like weather protection and storage without fully expanding on them, while the example regarding traffic in India is somewhat generalised. The conclusion appropriately summarises the main points and gives a balanced final thought. Overall, the task is adequately addressed, fitting the criteria for Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, positive aspects, negative aspects, and conclusion. Progression is visible as the writer transitions smoothly from the positive impacts to the negative impacts using phrases like 'To commence with positive side' and 'On the other side'. However, cohesion can feel mechanical or repetitive at times, particularly with basic transitions and lists (e.g., 'and many more', 'and many other locations'). Furthermore, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'it' without a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the essay, but the logical links between individual sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying meaning with terms like 'transportation', 'modern society', 'private space', and 'environment'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cars tend to stuck in between' instead of 'become stuck' and 'saves time of an individual' instead of 'saves an individual's time'. Spelling is generally accurate, but some phrasing sounds unnatural or overly simplistic (e.g., 'climate conditions such as heavy rain'). The lexical resource is sufficient to allow the message to come across clearly, aligning with Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'When everyone has their own personal mode of transportation, then it creates more traffic on roads...' and 'People don’t have to wait for a bus...'. There are several grammatical errors present throughout the text, including missing articles ('saves time of an individual', 'on other side'), incorrect prepositions, and structural awkwardness ('cars tend to stuck in between'). However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear to the reader. Control over punctuation is generally fine, but the frequency of minor structural mistakes keeps the grammar score at Band 6.
