The reliance on private cars has increased significantly around the world in recent years. This trend has chnaged the way people live in several ways. This trend has both positive and negative impacts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the ways reliance on private cars affects our lives and whether these effects are positive or negative. However, there are significant issues regarding task fulfilment. Firstly, the student failed to meet the minimum word count requirement, falling short at 208 words instead of the required 250. This under-length impacts the depth of idea development, leading to abrupt paragraphs, such as the very brief fourth paragraph about employment which lacks sufficient supporting examples. Furthermore, there are typos in the student's text, such as 'chnaged' instead of changed, and unfinished sentences like 'They can easliThis saved time'. Overall, while the position is generally clear, the development is limited due to length constraints, placing this criterion at a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall arrangement with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There is a heavy reliance on repetitive transitional openings, such as 'This trend has...' and 'One primary benefit...'. Additionally, severe sentence truncation and uncompleted thoughts, such as 'They can easliThis saved time could be used to for other productive purposes', disrupt the logical flow and make referencing unclear in places. While paragraphs are used to separate distinct ideas, the internal cohesion and progression are hindered by mechanical errors and abrupt shifts, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, touching upon relevant themes such as 'convenience', 'traffic congestion', and 'vehicular emissions'. However, the range is limited, and there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the writing. Examples include 'chnaged' (changed), 'unrealiable' (unreliable), 'easliThis' (easily), 'manageble' (manageable), and 'enviornmental' (environmental). The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these frequent lexical and typographical inaccuracies cause occasional difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are numerous structural breakdowns and grammatical errors throughout the text, notably 'waste time either public transportation' (missing preposition), 'more number of cars' (incorrect quantifier usage), and 'government should make' (missing article). The most critical issue is the presence of fragmented or corrupted sentences, such as 'They can easliThis saved time could be used to for other productive purposes'. These frequent errors and structural lapses cause reading difficulty, aligning the performance with Band 5.0 descriptors.
