Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many parts of the world, people do rely on private cars for transportation rather than pulic transport. In some ways it is very benificial but every thing has some pros and cons.
First we will discuss the positive side of it. Reliance on private cars can be useful as you don't have to rely on anyone. If you are short of time, you just have to start your car and it can take you anywhere. It can also helps you to maintain your privacy. Sometimes you can take someone with you to work and you can charge them which means you can also earn from it.
Everything has a negative side as well. Reliance on your private car can disturb your budget. As the fuel prices are continuously rising, it can be costly. It can also effect in polution, as every car will release gases which can disturb our ozone layer. There is also a huge issue of parking as well. You dont have any tension in public transport, you just have to sit and it will take you to your destination. It is very budget friendly as well.
I live in Islamabad and everytime when i go my office, I notice everyone uses there own car. There is heavy traffic on roads by this and petrol prices are continuously rising as there is a high demand of petrol. Along with that, it heavily impacts on our environment.
If you'll ask me, i do perfer public transport over private transport.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing how reliance on private cars affects daily life and evaluating whether these effects are positive or negative. A position is presented, and relevant examples from personal experience in Islamabad are provided. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial. For instance, points regarding privacy, earning money by car-pooling, and pollution are introduced but not fully extended. Furthermore, spelling errors such as 'pulic' and 'benificial' appear, and some generalizations are slightly repetitive. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6 because it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible progression of ideas. The writer attempts to structure the response by introducing the topic, dedicating a paragraph to the positive aspects, another to the negative aspects, and a personal example followed by a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat basic, and cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or repetitive, such as 'First we will discuss' and 'Everything has a negative side as well'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band. Nevertheless, the progression is clear enough to guide the reader without significant confusion, placing it securely at a Band 6 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'benificial', 'car-pooling' (implied), and 'budget-friendly'. However, there are notable spelling errors including 'pulic' instead of public, 'benificial' instead of beneficial, 'effect' instead of affect, and 'polution' instead of pollution. Word choice and collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'have any tension' instead of having to worry. While these errors are noticeable, communication is not impeded as the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. This performance aligns with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, leaning towards a solid Band 6 for adequate task coverage despite vocabulary limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'If you are short of time, you just have to start your car and it can take you anywhere.' Grammatical control is variable. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including subject-verb agreement slips like 'everyone uses there own car' instead of 'their own car', and prepositional inaccuracies like 'go my office' instead of 'go to my office'. Additionally, capitalization errors occur with 'i' instead of 'I'. Despite these frequent minor errors, the sentence structures are generally understandable and do not impede the overall flow of communication, fitting the Band 5.5 or 6 descriptor profile well.
