Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many parts of the world, private cars have become an essential means of transportation. Although, relying on cars offers greater convenience and freedom, it also affects people's lifestyle and the environment in several ways. In my point of view, the overall effects are predominantely nagative because of disadvantages assossiated with congestion, pollution and sedentary lifestyle outweight the benefits.
One significant advantage of private cars is that it provide convenience and flexibility. People can commute from one place to anothwer without being restricted by the public transport schedules or routes. This is particularly beneficial for the people with the areas with limited public transport and the families with kids and elderly relatives. Cars can also provide greater access to employment and eductaional opportunities, since people can commute more distance easily. For example, an employee living in suburban area can easily accept the job to nearby city as commute can be easy and manageable. Consequently, car ownership give people greater independence and provide their access to essential service.
However, widespread dependence on cars has several serious negative consequences. Heavy car usage contributes to traffic congession and air pollution particuarly to large cities. Long hours of commuting can create stress and reduce the amount of time having for families and physical activities. Furthermore people also become less active, where they can easily walk. For instance, commuters who can walk to nearby shops use cars instead, simply because they are accustomed to using there cars. At broders level increased use of cars can led to environmental problem and also create health issues.
In conslusion, private cars undoubtedly make daily travel more convenient and provide greater independence. Nevertheless, the widespread use can negatively affects people health, lifestyle and environment. Therefore, I beleive that widespread use and reliance on private cars is more negative than positive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the positive and negative effects of private car reliance and presents a clear position throughout, which is established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as explaining how cars benefit people in areas with limited public transport or how commuting affects stress and physical activity. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in parts, and some arguments, particularly regarding environmental and health issues in the third paragraph, remain somewhat broad rather than fully explored. This places the response comfortably within the expectations for this level, where all parts of the prompt are covered, but certain points could benefit from deeper elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction and position statement to the advantages, disadvantages, and a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, as seen with phrases like 'One significant advantage', 'However', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the argument. While referencing is mostly clear, minor mechanical transitions or slightly repetitive sentence openings occasionally appear, preventing the cohesion from feeling entirely seamless. Overall, the arrangement of information is coherent and easy for the reader to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'convenience and flexibility', 'independence', and 'widespread dependence'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that reflect limitations at this band level, such as 'predominantely', 'assossiated', 'outweight', 'anothwer', 'eductaional', 'congession', 'particuarly', 'broders', 'led', and 'conslusion'. Furthermore, stylistic issues like 'there cars' instead of 'their cars' occur. Although these errors do not seriously impede communication, they highlight a lack of precision and control over less common vocabulary, keeping the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and varied structures, such as conditional or participial clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'cars can led' and incorrect article or preposition usage in phrases like 'the people with the areas' and 'amount of time having for families'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though commas are occasionally misplaced or omitted around introductory elements. These errors persist throughout the text, but they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the intended meaning without significant difficulty, which is characteristic of this grammatical level.
